Hi-Tech was started in 1982 by Craig Maisonville, a board shaping maniac. The first retail location on Baldwin Avenue in Paia was more like a board outlet for the Hi-Tech Board Factory located in the Pauwela Cannery in Haiku that produced a few custom surfboards, but mainly hundreds of custom sailboards in the boom times of windsurfing. Craig was the shaper and Dave Collingnon was the glasser and laminator, and Wade Easterling was the airbrusher. They formed an amazing team for many years.
